HONG KONG (SE): The Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, Caine Road, will participate in a multimedia e-learning project commissioned by the Education Bureau and developed by the Education University of Hong Kong.
Twenty-six videos detailing the different parts of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, produced by the Centre for Religious and Spirituality Education under the Education University of Hong Kong, will be posted on the Education Bureau’s website early next year. Videos on Protestant churches and Buddhist temples will also be posted.
The videos are now available on the cathedral’s Facebook page. Apart from the videos, the website of the Education Bureau will include quizzes and online games to encourage more interaction.
“I think it is a new and good way of evangelisation. We are happy that people are interested in finding out more about our faith. These will not be one-time use education materials, but long term, for students of different ages,” Father Dominic Chan Chi-ming, parish priest of the cathedral, said.
He hopes that it can attract more non-believers to watch the videos, play the online games and take the quiz on the website.
“There are many faith items that even Catholics are not familiar with. The videos will help them a lot,” he added.
In the two-minute videos, Father Chan explains the various items inside the historical church building which is a Grade 1 Historic Building declared by the Antiquities Advisory Board.
These include the chair of the bishop at the altar and which has coat of arms of Bishop Stephen Chow Sau Yan, sj,on it; the Chinese Martyrs’ Chapel embellished with stained glass images of St. Anne Wong with six other martyrs, along with relics of 16 of the 120 martyrs; the All Souls Chapel with a memorial book, inviting prayers for the souls of the departed; and the crucifix that hangs above the altar with the image of resurrected Jesus together with the Disciples, reminding the faithful of their mission.
