HONG KONG (SE): Bishop Chow Sau Yan, SJ, washed the feet of seven young people in the live-streamed celebration of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday, April 14. In his homily, the bishop invited people to help build up a good Church with synodality and spiritual conversations.
Bishop Chow said that amid the Covid-19 pandemic, God is leading us on an exodus out of fear, sorrow and hatred. “In our path during the pandemic, let’s ask ourselves if we can make changes and accept the situation while we are in the same boat,” he said.
The bishop noted that Jesus washed the feet of his discipled at the Passover meal even though he knew they would later deny him, to encourage them abide with God and love one another.
The bishop expressed his gratitude for the Body and Blood of Christ which had helped us to build up the Church with love, which he stressed should be with quality as well. He said the spirit of synodality and spiritual conversations, encouraged by process for the 2023 Synod of Bishops, are essential elements for the quality of the Church.
“Let’s wholeheartedly believe that the Holy Spirit will help us renew the Church, and work has to start now instead of 2023,” Bishop Chow exhorted.
