The Catechists and Pastoral Team of the Chaplaincy for Filipino Migrants in Hong Kong gathered on October 1 for the “Joint Catechists and Pastoral Day 2021”. It was held at the Bayanihan Centre in Kennedy Town from 11.00 am to 5.00 pm and was attended by 24 catechists from Saturday and Sunday Groups and 56 pastoral volunteers from weekdays and weekend groups.
The gathering began with rosary prayers, followed by a Mass celebrated by Father Jay Flandez, spiritual adviser of both groups. A fellowship lunch followed thereafter.
The event’s highlight was a talk by Father Flandez on the theme “Gifted to serve: Yes to the Mission.” He emphasised the importance of community, service and humility, as mentioned in Philippians 2:1-11. “In the community, we have common faith, we become one in heart and mind. We do service in the different apostolates, thinking of others for the good of the Church and not for self glorification.” he said, adding that the more we empty ourselves, the more God will use us for his kingdom.
Group sharing followed after the talk as participants talked about why they volunteer in the community and how can they be of help to the community.
A mini bible quiz followed, participated by the catechists and pastoral volunteers.
There were also simple door prizes raffled off to the participants.
The event ended with the singing by all the volunteers of the theme song of the celebration of 500 years of Christianity in the Philippines “We give our Yes.”
