For my grandparents…

For my grandparents…

Thank you, my grandfather, for establishing a family full of care and kindness. I am really grateful for your endless love and guidance. Spending time with you will always be a favourite moment of mine. You have taught me what it means to live a life freely and with generosity. Learning from you has made me a better version of myself. Having you as my grandfather is a gift I will always treasure. May your days be filled with joy and laughter. You are my number one supporter.

When I was a kid, my grandparents were my go-to persons. They usually helped me when I wanted something. They might say “yes” when my mom said “no”; they might say “go” when my dad said “stop”. They made sure that I was well fed, well clothed and well taken care of. I could not thank them enough for being my “second parents.”

Thank you for all the love you have shown me. Neither of you ever get as much praise as you deserve. Thank you for raising my parents and instilling positive values like integrity, commitment and faith in them. Because of you, they could provide me with a loving home and continually prove to be the best role models I could ever hope for.

Grandma, you have taught me the true meaning of love and sacrifice. You always adore your family. You provide the perfect combination of love and structure. You have followed your passions, and maintained a happy home. You are what I strive for my future wife to be. And thank you for showing me what it means by relying on God. Your constant prayers mean everything to me and have helped me through difficult times in life.

Grandpa, you have taught me the importance of hard work and a sense of humour. You have shown me that nobody has the power to keep you down as long as you have the drive to make something happen. Hearing about your childhood and how hard you had worked in order to make the amazing life you currently have has only driven up my ambition.

You both have shown me that love is truly unconditional, anything can be fixed with communication, and that I can never underestimate the power of loving grandparents.

Among all things in this ever-changing world, you both are two of the most constant people in my life. It is the sound of your voices when you talk or the stray cough that reverberates throughout the house that reminds me that I am simply at home—a sanctuary where I am the safest and most loved. The smile on your faces when you watch the shows on TV that entertain you throughout the seasons or when you watch us,  your grandchildren, go up the stage to receive awards of recognition incite a throb in my heart—a pleasant feeling that can be identified as an adoration in honor of you two. Everything that you utter and do—no matter how mundane—I hold them with high regard simply because it’s done by the both of you. No matter the challenge—small or big—we owe you both our appreciation and thanks for it is the resilience that rests within you, that encouraged our family to climb over these challenges with perseverance. You both are beyond worthy of solicitude, gratitude and esteem. With these, I would like to finish this letter with six clichè words that are laced with raw and authentic feelings: We love you both so much!

You are a guiding light in my life and a source of my inspiration and motivation. You have ears that truly listen, arms that holds on tight, patience that’s never ending, and a heart that’s made of gold. Thank you for your hugs at night that sheltered me from having nightmares. When I was sick, your warmth was incomparable. You were my loyal fan and number one supporter in every stage performances. Thank you for always believing the best in me, and encouraging me to pursue my dreams.

Remember those days back then? My weight didn’t bother you at all as you carried me in your back just to protect me from getting all wet when there was a flooding. I deeply appreciated what you did and it was all engraved in my heart.

Before obstacles that may come our way, you show us the path. When I think about all the sacrifices you have made for me, it will never be enough. Seasons might change but your love never ceases. I am truly blessed to have you in my life. I love you endlessly.

Today is the first World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. This is is a perfect opportunity for us to reach out to our grandparents whom we miss so much due to Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic that prohibits us from meeting them. I thank God for giving me kind and generous grandparents. I pray that God bless them with good health and long life. For my pretty granny in Hong Kong, I miss her fun way of teaching me how to be good and do things in the right way. I pray that Covid-19 will go away so my granny can come home for a vacation. We would be happy singing songs and playing games. Every day is picnic day at home as she teaches us the importance of healthy cooking. Learning is fun with granny. I love her and I miss her and I pray that God always bless and protect my loving granny.
