What struck me about the life of St. Joseph Oriol was his simplicity and humility. His lifestyle was one of great mortification and self-denial. His outstanding practice of poverty and continuous prayer is really something to admire and reflect on.
It’s easy to believe that the way to live an impactful life is to have an abundance of material resources. Or that a person needs great wealth in order to give generously. But St. Joseph Oriol, in his poverty, demonstrated tremendous charity, compassion, healing and generosity. By his example, we are motivated to “seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, then all things shall be added unto us.”
