In the days when he was in the flesh, he offered prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. (Hebrews 5:7)
Prayer from the heart
where do we start
If we bow before our God

And ask for his mercy
“O God, have mercy on me; a sinner”
With humility and gentleness of spirit,
When tears cloud our vision
And we know there is nowhere else to go
Then to Our Father,
humbly make our submission.
Abba, Father! You know what’s in my heart,
Please help me to make a new start.
Even Jesus called on you, His Father
With tears in his eyes and pain in his heart.
“May this cup pass me by;
Not my will but thine!”
Was his heartfelt prayer
In the garden of despair.
He knew this had to be
So that he could save you and me.
Listen to his cries of anguish
As he was left alone to languish.
Knowing what punishment was to befall,
So to his heavenly Father he called.
When you want to pray from the heart
Tell Jesus how you feel about your part
How your guilt is weighing you down
Because your sins added to his thorny crown.
Tell him about your family and friends
And how, for your mistakes you will make amends.
Maybe start simply by
telling him about your day
When you don’t know what else to say.
And soon you will see that he is truly a friend
You can talk to him until the day’s end.
When morning comes,
He will be your first thought
And that is really how we were taught;
A morning offering when you awake
And prayers of thanksgiving do not forsake.
Before long you will see what I mean
For spending time with Jesus you will be keen.
Whether you are happy and want to share
Or you are heartbroken and in despair
Praying from the heart
Will become a big part
He will become your best friend
And your friendship will never end.
