Pope prays for victims of Sulawesi church bombing

HONG KONG (SE): During the Angelus prayer after Palm Sunday Mass on March 28, Pope Francis prayed for all the victims of violence making special note of Indonesia, saying “especially those of this morning’s attack in Indonesia, in front of the Cathedral of Makassar (in South Sulawasi).” 

The Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral was rocked by an attempted suicide bombing on March 28 which, led to at least 14 people were hospitalised with CNN reported. The two suspected bombers, who rode in on a motorcycle both died, according to Indonesian police while the security guard who stopped the bombers from entering the churchyard is among the injured.

The Jakarta Post reported that he congregation had just finished celebrating Palm Sunday Mass. 

The newspaper quoted a priest from the church as saying, “We were finishing the service and people were going home when it happened.” 

The Jakarta Post reported inspector general, Argo Yuwono, the National Police spokesperson, as reporting, “There were two people riding on a motorbike when the explosion happened at the main gate of the church—the perpetrators were trying to enter the compound.”
