
Lent is here and the Catholic Church in Hong Kong is began its annual Lenten Campaign on February 17, Ash Wednesday, to run until March 25. This year’s them is of this year is Lord, it is good that we are here. Deacon Peter Wong, chairperson of the Catholic Church Lenten Campaign Organising Committee, is appealing to parishes, Catholic schools, Catholic institutions and communities to participate through prayer, reflection and sacrifice.
Beginning on January 25, promotional materials were dispatched to parishes, Catholic institutions and schools. In addition, the Lenten Charitable Award Scheme was initiated to encourage the spirit of the Lent for both parents and children. Activities include drawing, charitable activity schemes, photography, hunger meals, as well as Paschal Lamb money boxes.
Those with Paschal Lamb money boxes are reminded to bring them along with their Lenten sacrifices to their parish on Passion Sunday (March 28). All donations go towards supporting the needy.
The organizing committee held a briefing session via Zoom with Father James Boey as the guest speaker on January 30 (Saturday) at the school hall of Raimondi College, Central, for school teachers, Sunday school teachers and school pastoral assistants.
Father Boey spoke on the meaning of Lent while Deacon Wong explained the theme for this year’s Lenten Campaign. Committee members introduced the Award Scheme and demonstrated the use of the Lenten promotional materials.
