I share my Catholic faith with our fellow Christians particularly the Protestants by listening first to what they say before I give a positive comment adding what our faith have in common. This is the safest way of sharing with respect and avoid clashes. Instead we can arrive into a closer friendship. I always remember to avoid any arguments for I believe that sharing faith is making it grow. We can also share God’s grace, blessings and love as a whole. I can make good friends easily with Protestants because we share the same basic teachings of Christ and we can always refer to the Bible in our discussions and learn many lessons that are applicable to our Christian life.

I am always glad to share my Catholic faith with our fellow Christians, to Protestants and to other believers basically by my own daily Catholic life of prayers and good deeds. I talk to them in a friendly and brotherly way with respect and understanding. Many times I listen to their ideas then I appreciate them for their time and good thoughts. I take also the time to share with them the similarities and common goodness of our respective faith and we find ourselves enjoying our discussion. It is in this way that I gain their friendship. It is easy for me to make friends with them as I highly respect people’s religion, beliefs, culture and faith. In this way I am able to live peacefully with others. My favourite reference during my sharing of faith with others is the life and teachings of Mother Teresa, which is to love others by respecting humanity.

I met a friend who is a Protestant way back in my first year here in Hong Kong. Respect was the very essence to keep our friendship going. We shared each other’s knowledge about Catholics and Protestants. She listened when I share about Catholicism and I did the same thing when she explained about Protestant beliefs. We never ended up fighting about our different religions.
For me, we can be friends with people from different religious denominations, and there’s no problem with that. We just have to widen our minds to understand things.
If you really are a Catholic believer you will stick to being a Catholic by your actions, beliefs and heart, and that is the best way to express your faith.

When I share with my non-Catholic friends about my faith, I tell them what I have learned from the Bible. I do not argue with them because I respect them. They can see through my actions that I practise what I have learned by spreading love and understanding. It is easy to make friends with them as I treat them like my brothers and sisters. Difference of one’s religious beliefs is not a barrier to friendship and the Lord teaches us that we should love our neighbours as we love ourselves then that is how we show our love to God.

As a Catholic believer I will share my religious beliefs with my Protestant friends. We realise that our beliefs are different, but we worship the same God. Catholics are under the leadership of the Pope in a universal Church while the Protestants have different denominations. Catholics believe in our seven sacraments, which are baptism, Eucharist, confirmation, reconciliation, anointing of the sick, marriage and holy orders, but the Protestants only practice two of these sacraments – baptism and Eucharist (called Last Supper). No matter how differernt we are, I respect actually people’s different religious beliefs and practices. I will not argue about our religious differences but I will also share whatever we believe as Catholics. Whatever religious beliefs we have, we are all children of God.
