MANILA (UCAN): Bishop Victor Bendico of Baguio people about the group, Rosary Confraternity Benguet, a sedevacantist (empty papal seat) group which he said was actively recruiting members in the diocese. In a December 3 letter the bishop warned people not be seduced, noting that the group rejects Vatican II and has branded the pope as “anti-Christ.”

Rosary Confraternity Benguet is not a Catholic group he warned.

Sedevacantist refers to people who see themselves as Catholic traditionalists but reject the pope because he embraces the Church’s teachings formulated during the Second Vatican Council.

“I admonish all the faithful to be guided accordingly and strongly discouraged from joining any activities of such a group,” the bishop wrote.

He said the group was “not related” to any parish or recognised Church organisation in the diocese and that it was recruiting members to attack the pope and the Church.

“They deny the validity of the sacraments administered by the Catholic Church. This group, therefore, brings confusion and propagates erroneous, false, and distorted teachings to our Catholic faithful” Bishop Bendico added.

He called for vigilance against such groups whose teachings and activities “bring confusion and propagate erroneous, false and distorted teachings to our Catholic faithful.”
