Upon expiry of the validity of the Provisional Agreement between the Holy See and the People’s Republic of China on the appointment of Bishops, stipulated in Beijing on 22 September 2018 and which entered into force one month later, the two Parties agreed to extend the experimental implementation phase of the Provisional Agreement for another two years.
The Holy See, considering that the start of the application of the aforementioned Agreement – of fundamental ecclesial and pastoral value – has been positive, thanks to the good communication and collaboration between the Parties on the matter agreed upon, intends to continue the open and constructive dialogue for promoting the life of the Catholic Church and the good of the Chinese People.
