MANDALAY (UCAN): Just 10 days after a locally transmitted case of the Covid-19 coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) was detected in Rakhine state, Bishop John Hsane Hgyi of Pathein, issued guidelines to tackle a second wave of the contagion.
“Be aware of Covid-19 that rapidly changes its structure. Factories and workshops are closed due to its transmission,” Bishop Hgyi said.
The bishop exhorted people to wear facemasks, avoid gatherings and maintain social distancing of six feet. He also urged people to eat healthy food, exercise, meditate and pray to fight the virus.
On September 11, residents in Yangon used pieces of wood to make barricades around neighbourhoods in an effort to prevent the virus spreading.
Myanmar has been grappling with a second wave of infections as cases have spiked across the country after the first local transmission was reported in Rakhine on August 16. Since then, the number of infections has quadrupled after weeks with no local transmissions.
As of September 17, the country recorded 3,636 cumulative cases of Covid-19 and 39 deaths.
