New leaders for Caritas Bangladesh

NATORE (UCAN): The president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Bangladesh, Patrick Cardinal D’Rozario of Dhaka, announced the appointment of Ranjon Francis Rozario as executive director of Caritas Bangladesh, and James Gomes as its director (programmes), on August 14. They will commence their new roles in the agency from September 1.

The 59-year-old Rozario, will succeed Francis Atul Sarker, has been executive director since 2016. Rozario joined the agency in 1991 at Caritas Khulna in southern Bangladesh, was appointed regional director of Caritas Dhaka in 2006 and has been at his current post as director (programmes), since 2016.

Gomes, who is 50-years-old, joined Caritas Chittagong in southeast Bangladesh in 2005 and became the regional director in 2006. Besides his regular role, he oversaw Caritas’ Rohingya response project from 2017 until recently.

Since its inception following Bangladesh’s independence from Pakistan in 1971, Caritas has become one of the country’s leading non-government organisations and made great strides in the development of poor and marginalised communities.
