In the evening of your years

All God’s children are loved by him
Stubborn sinner and virtuous saint alike
He loved us enough to send his son
To die upon the cruel and torturous cross
And he loves us too much to leave us unchecked,
Admonishing us to be perfect,
as his father is perfect.

The Commandments and the Beatitudes
Rules and guides to direct our lives
His words of love to shape and curb our attitudes.
His arms outstretched upon the gibbet
While suffering and dying, his rent heart
Poured forth blood and water
As the greatest act of sacrifice,
And the temple veil was torn apart.

Who could love with such great love
“I Am,” said he
Hanging upon a roughhewn tree
Pouring out each drop of blood
For his love for you.

All God’s children look upon the Son of Man!
Who descended from his heavenly throne,
To die for each of us alone.
All are welcome at the foot of the cross,
Turn your eyes upon his suffering face,
Beg for mercy and be filled with grace.

All God’s children redeemed by the blood of the lamb,
Look at his nail-torn feet and hands,
See the cruel thorns upon his head
The brutal stripes upon his back.
Watch the blood flow from his side
And water gush forth
as Our Saviour died.

All God’s children, look and see
How Jesus died for you, and me!
