‘Let no debt remain outstanding except the continuing debt to love one another,’
– Romans 13:8 –

This question seems simple but is in fact difficult to answer. There are people who really gather strength to loan money because of great need. However they cannot afford to repay. Some will even run away from you. What I would do is go to that person and ask him frankly if he could pay back or not. That way I do not need to anticipate and wait. The best thing is not to lend money to others if you need it. Should you decide to lend, do not expect that you will be paid back. In some serious cases, you can go to court for settlement.

First thing to do is to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to guide me. Then I will talk to that person carefully. I will be calm and let the Holy Spirit work in us. It will be helpful to know the reason why he fails to pay me back. I will try to understand that. I will encourage him positively and give him time to pay back. And if still he could not even if he tries hard, I will just let it go. I may share it generously. It is a way to let him feel that God loves him.

In my opinion I will just give him enough time to pay and pray for his success. If he really cannot pay me back, I will just consider that I have given the money to help a person in need. And be thankful to Almighty God that I was given the chance to help.

If somebody asks me to lend money and I have extra, I will not hesitate to help. However I would tell them that the money he borrowed is the last one I have and actually I need it later too. But because he needs it that much, I am wiling to lend it to him first. I will politely ask him to pay me back on a certain date as I need it on that day. Sometimes on that day he can’t pay me back. I wouldn’t want to force him because I would think if I were in his position maybe I’m like him.

I once helped to pay a debt of a friend including interest. Before I did anything to ask her to pay me back, she ran away from the debt and even told lies about me. I always pray to God that he will give me good health always so that I can still work and earn that sum of money again to support living. Money is a piece of paper but health is our real wealth. I can still earn the amount that I lost and even more.
There were times that I bumped into this friend but I was like a stranger to her. I told myself not to be sad or upset. Money lost can still be earned. Reputation and honour lost can never be regained. Instead I am thankful to God that during the time she was in great need, in darkness and at loss, I was there to guide her and helped her.
My financial side is now rocky but I don’t lose hope. I also have debts but I never forget to pay and neither will I run away from my creditors.
