TAIPEI (SE): The Archdiocese of Taipei, Taiwan, resumed Sunday and weekday Masses from May 10 after an almost two month suspension following the outbreak of the Covid-19 coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). All public Masses were suspended on March 20.
However, the Archdiocesan Evangelisation Assembly scheduled for May 23 has been postponed. A new date and place will be announced later, the archdiocese said in a notice.
Public Masses will be held strictly in compliance with social distancing norms and other globally established norms to ward off transmission the Covid-19 coronavirus infection.
Each indoor Mass will have only 100 participants, who should register their names.
The archdiocese recommended celebrating more outdoor Masses for the benefit of the people. Massgoers are asked to maintain a safe distance outdoors as well.
Parishioners with fevers or other symptoms of Covid-19 are exempted from the obligation of attending Sunday Masses.
While offering the sign of peace at Mass, Catholics are asked to avoid shaking hands. Instead, they should bow or show other forms of respect, the diocesan notice said.
It also asked clergy and their helpers at Masses to clean their hands with alcohol-based liquid before delivering the Eucharist.
Taiwan has recorded 440 positive Covid-19 cases and six deaths. No new local infections have been reported since April 13.
