New officers for Sto. Niño Crusaders group

Newly-elected officers of the Sto. Niño Crusaders group in Holy Family Parish, Choi Hung were blessed during a Mass celebrated by assistant parish priest Father Natalius Suryanto SVD. Members elected were Shirley Quingquing as the coordinator; Arlene Ayuban as the assistant coordinator; Rizalina Sagritalo as the secretary and Josephine Bunag as the treasurer.

The group was founded by Maria Jesusa Alipao Dal on 25 October 1989 together with four other members who are former members of St. Jude Filipino Catholic group. The group at the beginning gathered in parks under the image of the Infant Jesus. They attended Mass at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel (Catholic Centre) in Central. The group also visited an elderly centre in Sham Shui Po as part of their apostolic work.

In 1990, the group started to serve in the choir together with some members of the Legion of Mary at the 2.30pm Mass in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel. And with the help of the Good Shepherd sisters, the group became one of the official Filipino Catholic groups in Hong Kong.

The membership of the group kept growing. By 1992, it started to serve in the Mass in Mount Carmel Church, Wanchai. We organised Bible studies, living rosary, prayer meetings, recollections and started our Santacruzan on every fourth Sunday of May.

In 1996 the group served in another choir at Kai Tak Airport Chapel, where they met Father Osvaldo Metz who invited them to join the Holy Family Parish in 1998.

On the third Sunday of January in 2014, we started our first Sinulog Festival and since then we celebrated it every year.

Since we started the group we have offered our services for the Lord. Our purpose is to love God with all our minds, all our hearts and all our strength to enrich our faith and make us steadfast before trials.
