
HONG KONG (SE): John Cardinal Tong Hon, the apostolic administrator of the of Hong Kong, conveyed the diocese’s appreciation and encouragement to the Birthright Society for services provided to the community, at its 47th annual general meeting, held at the Caritas Restaurant, Caine Road, on October 18.
The cardinal told the members of the sociey to follow the teachings of Jesus to care more about the small, the weak and the needy.
Dr. Peter Au-yeung, chairperson of the Birthright Society, reported that during the year, 44 cases were handled. The society has been working closely with Caritas-Hong Kong in support of its Project Hyacinth to provide services to those young mothers who had repeated abortions to return to normal life.
During the year, 155 new recruits were made and 37 service programmes were provided for them.
He quoted Pope Francis’ Twitter message to the Washington March for Life on 19 January 2018 which said: “Every life counts; from the beginning to the end, from conception to natural death.” He also quoted Pope Francis addressing the Italian Prolife Movement February 2 saying, “It’s life, It’s future.”
