Simbayanan-KAMMPI celebrates 27th anniversary with ‘varieties of hope’

Simbayanan-KAMMPI marked its 27th anniversary on September 26 at the Caritas Social Centre Community Hall in Kowloon, around the theme “Varieties of Hope.”

The celebration began with the Holy Eucharist, presided over by Oblate Father Rodolfo Jun Jacobe. In his homily, Father Jacobe called on attendees to be messengers of hope through mature faith, reminding them that divine intervention guides daily lives and that nothing is impossible with God.

The second part of the programme opened with the Philippine National Anthem, prayers, and a welcome address.

Sister Corazon Demetillo RGS, former spiritual adviser, delivered an inspirational talk and recalled the early challenges faced by foreign domestic helpers in Hong Kong, emphasized KAMMPI’s biblical mission of care and unity, and highlighted its crucial humanitarian efforts during COVID-19, including establishing the Tsing Yi shelter for displaced workers.

She recalled the community’s post-pandemic recovery, noting that synodal initiatives—such as spiritual gatherings, cultural presentations, and collaborative songwriting—continue to foster deep solidarity and healing.

The afternoon featured talent showcases—including singing, dancing, and drama—from 15 participating communities.

The event concluded with an awarding of certificates led by KAMMPI spiritual adviser Sister Victoria Victorino pddm, and coordinator Imelda Mertula, followed by closing remarks and a final prayer.
