(SE): On June 15, Pope Leo XIV appointed Father Joseph Chang Yanfeng as Bishop of Chifeng, Inner Mongolia, China, under the Provisional Agreement on the Appointment of Bishops, which was reached between the Holy See and Beijing in 2018 during Pope Francis’s pontificate.
Bishop Chang was ordained to the episcopate on July 22, the fourth since Pope Leo was elected to the papacy.
Between 2010 and 2013, he worked in the diocesan curia while also serving in several parishes. He was later appointed parish priest of both Chifeng Cathedral and Lindong. Since 15 October 2021, he has served as the diocesan administrator of Chifeng.
Bishop Chang was born on 4 April 1984 in Beizhen, Liaoning Province. He attended Shenyang Major Seminary and later studied at the Catholic University of Daejeon in South Korea, where he obtained a degree in Biblical Theology. He was ordained as a priest for the Diocese of Chifeng on 18 November 2010.
