Life lessons shaped by experiences

Being a mom of two boys has been challenging. I often fulfill both parental roles and struggled at times to provide basic needs. This motivated me to work abroad, putting my children’s comfort above my presence. My faith in Sacred Heart has been a guiding light, helping me face challenges in Hong Kong. It inspires me to confront life’s difficulties and ensures a better future for my kids.

My decision to work abroad as an overseas worker while leaving my husband and three children was one of the hardest choices I’ve made. Saying goodbye and missing important milestones was painful, but I had to be strong for their future. This experience taught me patience, humility, and resilience. Despite feelings of loneliness and exhaustion, each sacrifice became meaningful when I thought about my family’s dreams. I now deeply value family time and approach life with gratitude, understanding, and determination.

Spiritual emptiness has greatly influenced my outlook. Previously, I sought help from friends but often felt a heaviness in my heart. A Charismatic friend helped me grow spiritually, teaching me to seek God first through prayer and worship. Trials persist, but having faith in God has made me believe that nothing is impossible. As it says in Proverbs 3:5-6, trusting in the Lord shows us the right way.

An important experience was my emotional investment in caregiving. I developed genuine bonds with the children, transforming my role from a mere responsibility to a significant connection. When the family moved abroad, I faced uncertainty about my place despite my efforts. This taught me that outcomes don’t always reflect our worth. I focused on what I could control—my attitude and communication—and accepted the rest. This fostered resilience and emotional maturity, shaping my perspective on growth and change.

I used to rush through life, viewing it as a series of problems to solve. However, I learned that each decision matters more than I realised. God reassured me that we are never truly alone, and life may not always align with our desires. Sometimes, the paths we take lead to greater things than we can imagine.

All my experiences—thoughts, feelings, and memories—are stored in my brain, shaping my worldview. Traumatic and significant life events deeply affect how I navigate relationships and cope with stress. While past failures influenced my future expectations and decisions, I’ve let go of negativity and allowed God to move in my life. I believe that God is the author of our stories, designing each person’s purpose before they were born.
