HONG KONG (SE):  On the occasion of the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, June 29, two Dominican friars were ordained to the priesthood through the imposition of hands and prayer of consecration vy Cardinal Stephen Chow, S.J., of Hong Kong.

The sacred ceremony took place at 3:00pm at Rosaryhill Chapel, located within St. Albert Priory on Stubbs Road.

Reverend Fermin Saw Simon Htoo, originally from Myanmar, and his companion from China having completed his philosophical and theological studies at the Holy Spirit Seminary in Hong Kong, were consecrated as priests during the liturgy.

The newly-ordained priests bless Cardinal Stephen at the end of the ceremony.

Father Htoo, born in 1995 in Taung Sein, Myanmar, is the eldest of five children. He completed his high school education in 2013 and subsequently entered the Dominican Order in August of the same year. His novitiate began in Hong Kong in 2015, leading to his first profession of vows in July 2016.

From 2016 to 2017, he undertook pre-university studies in Macau before pursuing philosophy and theology at the University of Saint Joseph in Macau, graduating in 2022. After returning to Myanmar for pastoral work, he made his solemn profession in August 2022.

Father Htoo was ordained a deacon on 30 June 2023, in Loikaw, Myanmar. In September 2024, he was assigned to the Convent of Holy Cross in Metro Manila, the Philippines.

The two newly ordained priests will journey to Manila to continue master’s degree programmes, with one focusing on preaching and the other on pastoral communication.
