HONG KONG (SE): On February 12, Saint Francis University held a gathering for teachers and students to celebrate the Lunar New Year, featuring traditional foods and cultural activities to create a festive atmosphere on campus. It began with a lion dance performance, and a “dotting of the eyes” ceremony officiated by Cardinal Stephen Chow S.J; Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung, the university’s president; Jesuit Father Aristotle C. Dy, president of Ateneo de Naga University; chaplain and Guadalupe Father Arturo De La Torre, as well as other board members.
To enhance the celebration, there was a calligraphy booth for participants to write spring couplets, and various traditional foods were offered, such as steamed rice cake and egg waffles. Professor Cheung took the time to roast chestnuts, engaging with students and staff to enjoy the holiday together.
The university also held a Mass at its chapel to mark the Lunar New Year on the same day.
