HONG KONG (Agencies): Bishop Norbert Pu of Chiayi, Taiwan’s first indigenous bishop met Pope Francis, media reported on September 21.
Bishop Pu, who is a member of the Tsou people, was in to Rome to take part in a course for new bishops organised by the Dicastery for Evangelisation, RVA News reported.
He was appointed bishop in February 2022, becoming the first indigenous person to attain the office in the Catholic Church, and he is noted for translating liturgical texts into the Tsou language
During the meeting, Bishop Pu said that the Church in Taiwan sent its blessings.
The Tsou mostly inhabit the Alishan region of Chiayi County.
