HONG KONG (SE): Sister Teresina Lam, of the Canossian Daughters of Charity, passed away peacefully in Villa Bakhita at the Canossian Convent, Hong Kong, on the afternoon on July 28, at the age of 92.
Sister Lam was born on 14 November 1927 and joined the Canossian religious family in Hong Kong on 21 January 1950. She made her first profession on 14 September 1953 and her final profession on 14 September 1958. After graduating from nursing school, she dedicated her whole life to nursing babies, and to the sick and the elderly. In Macau, she worked both in Mong Ha and Coloane, and in Hong Kong, she worked at Caritas Medical Centre, Ling Yuet Sin and the Canossian Convent, Caine Road.
Sister Lam always had a positive attitude. She was warm and caring. Her colleagues were happy to work with her and accepted her gentle reminders. She was also very generous and diligent. After retiring, she was sent to the formation community so that younger sisters might have the chance to learn from her good spirit.
She made good use of her time to go to the playground at recess time to meet the children. Whenever the children saw her from afar, they would be very happy to talk to her. Besides this ministry, she continued to teach catechism and to help the poor. She also promoted vocations.
In 2006, poor health forced her to retire to the Canossian Infirmary. There she continued to serve in the sacristy and offered her daily sacrifices and fervent prayers for the ministries of the Province.
About two months ago, Sister Lam suffered a stroke. Since then she was not able to speak. In mid-July, her heath became very fragile. On July 28, at 2.00pm, God called his beloved daughter to himself, and Sister Lam was received into his loving embrace.
Sister Lam’s family and the Canossian Sisters thank the readers, relatives and friends for their prayers for the repose of her soul. May she rest in peace.
