What kind of books do you like?

Thrillers are really emotional books. Often it gives me a feel like I as the reader is on a roller coaster. They add excitement to my everyday life and relieve my pressure.

When I was in high school, I used to read different books. Pocket books were popular during those years and now because of the modern technology, I can read them online through mobile phones or computers. I am interested in romance stories. I do not believe in fantasies, but I think to some extent these stories show me how to communicate and embrace imperfections in a relationship.

I am very much interested in reading contemporary fiction books. My absolute favourite is One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It made me laugh and cry and took me to different hot and dusty towns in Colombia in South America. Another favourite is High Fidelity by Nick Hornby. This book is hilarious, irresistible and contemporary. On the other hand, I’m also very much interested in reading culinary books as I am a healthy living enthusiast. I look for recipe books featuring whole foods and clean, healthy ingredients.

However these books are merely for entertainment purposes and I may not have time to read them due to busy life.

There is one book, however, that is constant in my life, a book that not only entertains me but provides me life giving wisdom, strength and nourishment, and that is the book of God, the Bible. The timeless stories in the Bible inspire me, lift me up and help me keep going in my life. I start each day with the daily readings from the Bible to gear me up for the day ahead.

I  love reading self-help books. My inspiration to read self-development books was instilled by my father. He would always tell us the importance of being open to learning regardless of age and status in life. When we read, we benefit from the words of wisdom and subconsciously make use of what we have learned.

Reading is a way of nurturing God’s gift. The Bible which is referred to be the book of life is also close to my heart. I personally call it as my refuge of strength, my own fortress when faced with overwhelming circumstances or simply a moment of reflection with God.

I  like detective stories. Some detective stories are similar to a real life story in some points and there are some lessons one can get from it if we can read it carefully. Romance-comedy is also good for entertainment which can help us relax. On top of these books, I love spiritual readings to enhance the spiritual side of me. I read some books on meditations and I reflect on how I can apply them in my life.
