HANOI (LiCAS News): Caritas Hanoi has extended vital assistance to residents of northern Vietnam impacted by recent storms, Matmo and Fengshen. The organisation visited several northern mountainous regions heavily affected by the storms, delivering essential support and relief goods to families in need.
On October 25, Father Peter Ta Van Thang, deputy director of Caritas Hanoi, participated in a relief programme in Trung Khanh and Tra Linh, located within the Diocese of Lang Son–Cao Bang.
The team distributed aid to 134 households affected by severe flooding. In Coc Phat Hamlet, Pac Vau, 62 out of 67 households were inundated, while in Cao Xuyen Hamlet, 61 of 67 households suffered similar damage.
The group also visited the Thanh Cong Mission in Na Ri, led by Father Giuse Nguyen Van Son, which serves 50 households.
The agency reported that “some areas of the mission are still deeply submerged in water, especially the basin area—where our brothers and sisters live.”
On October 27, Father Peter Tran Ngoc Lam, director of Caritas Hanoi, led another relief mission to Ha Giang City. The delegation visited two pastoral points—Ha Giang 2–Tuyen Quang and Ma Le village in Lung Cu commune—where numerous families suffered losses due to the storm.
Caritas Hanoi said the visits “bring sympathy, prayers and love from the community of God’s people of the Archdiocese of Hanoi to our brothers and sisters in difficulty.”
The organisation added that this initiative underscores its commitment to the principle that “charity is the way of the Church.”
